Soccer Tryout Frequently Asked Questions

What is the tryout procedure?

All players are required to tryout each year. The tryout fee is $10 per player. After evaluations, players will be notified of team assignments and sign their respective commitment forms.

How many sessions does a player need to attend during the tryout process?

For a proper evaluation, players should attend all sessions. Communicate with the coach if you have timing conflicts.

Can players play up an age group?

Sometimes it is necessary for players to play up in order to receive the proper level of competition. This requires DOC approval. You should report to the age group you wish to play.

What is the cost to play and when do I make payments?

Program costs are detailed in the Tryout Packet that can be downloaded from the link above.  Uniform payments are due at the time of team acceptance.  Club dues are payable according to the schedule we provide after tryouts.

Does the club offer financial assistance?

Need based financial assistance is possible.  For consideration, email your latest tax returns and W2 information to info.nasastrikers@gmail.com for a confidential review.

What is your philosophy on when tryouts should be competitive?

Player development is our number one priority. At U9 – U11 we go through an evaluation process and find the right fit for the player. At U12 and above, the best players will be assigned to the top team and then seek to provide opportunities for placement on a second team or combine age groups when that make sense for the players.

How are teams at U9 – U11 and younger formed?

At these young ages, players are assembled into pools. This type of process allows for the best development to take place across the entire pool of players. Teams will be formed for each day of competition and will change regularly to fit the match requirements.

At U11 and below, what is an Academy Team?

The Academy team is used to take a group of players and compete with other club’s top teams. This could be a game or tournament experience. This provides an opportunity for the top players to play together to push the competitive bounds.

How are teams at U12 and older formed?

The Strikers first priority is to form the top team for that division in order to prepare them for competition. Additional teams in each age group may be formed if the players and coaching is available.

What factors are the coaches considering when evaluating my child?

Coaches will examine their players in different ways but in general they are looking at: Skill, tactical awareness, fitness, coach-ability/attitude, commitment to soccer, interest in our complete program and personality.

Can my child ask to be on a friend’s team?

At the younger ages – all players are pooled together for training so they will be around their friends. This is also a great time to make new friends.

Do returning players still have to tryout?

All returning players must tryout regardless of team assignment or age.

Who will coach my child?

Coaches are named in advance of the tryout period and may be moved around during the tryouts. You will always know who your coach is before making any commitments. Pools will have multiple coaches assigned if necessary. There will always be one lead coach in these cases.

How will I be notified of my child’s status during the tryout procedure?

Players will be contacted directly with team assignments. Players not being assigned will also receive direct notification.
